I've Been to Paradise, But I've Never Been to Me.

27 June, 2009 | 03:37 am
location: In bed.
mood: contemplative contemplative
music: Richard Wagner - Das Rhinegold

Just got back from a midnight showing of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert at the Rio, and am now flipping back and forth between Jacques Brel and Wagner, because I can't decide what to listen to.

At the moment Das Rhinegold is winning.

Wednesday finally had her ZQ epiphany - meaning that she finally saw the light, and that light is the all-singing, all-dancing sexiness of our GQMF, Zachary Quinto - so she came over this morning, and we watched the third epsiode of the third season of Six Feet Under and played "Spot the ZQ". He played Hip Student. It was thrilling. Oh, and I went to the tea shop, so all-in-all, it was a pretty good day.

Tomorrow night is Gay Prom, and I'm currently scouring the internet looking for hair and makeup ideas. My dress is err... well... it's like this, but made of black velvet:
My makeup can't decide whether it wants to emulate Cyndi Lauper, or Siouxsie Sioux.
Decisions, decisions...

Mmm... Cheese

12 June, 2009 | 00:50 am
location: Still in bed

Cheese is amazing and will not leave crumbs in one's bed.

I've been watching Heroes - for the ZQ, naturally - and, as everyone told me it would, it's getting slightly ridiculous. But it's ridiculous in an hot way, because there is more Sylar concerned, so I am not complaining (as long as he's on screen). Any episode where Zach Quinto can go from making waffles to exploding most of California in five minutes automatically counts as amazing.

Also, at one point, he pretended to be an FBI agent, and I melted into a quivering puddle of lust.
Here is a picture for your viewing pleasure (swiped most heinously from heckyeahzachquinto):

The one thing I really can't stand, though, is the confusion of species: Matt keeps calling his tortise a turtle. What kind of fucking turtle lives in the desert? No kind, that's what, because it's a fucking tortoise. Srsly. And then he brings it home from Africa on a plane? I think not. What about quarantine and such things!?

Also, I went to my highschool's graduation ceremony today. I wanted to see some people graduate, and mother didn't want to have to sit through the whole thing by herself. So I went, and it was too fucking long. I fail to see how a ceremony for a class of sixty kids can be three-and-a-half hours long.. really.

Hrmf.
Back to watching Heroes.

The Job Hunt Continues

2 June, 2009 | 22:12 pm
location: On the floor
mood: nerdy nerdy
music: Warp 11 - Boldly Go Down on Me

Ugh... I didn't think it was going to be this hard to find a job this summer. Granted, I am extraordinarily picky about what I will and won't do, but I am telling myself that it's good for a girl to exercise some discretion.

At the moment, I'm working for my dad. His office is like some sort of hellish inferno; no amount of ice water can keep me from turning into a sweat puddle. Also, I'm filing, so my fingers constantly have this funny film on them - I blame the carbon paper. Though it really isn't so bad: I get to watch TED Talks all day.
I've applied at The Art of Loving, Womyn's Ware, the Aquarium, Carousel Theatre, a gift shop in Stanley Park, and Chapters... so far no luck. How am I supposed to get to Vegas if I haven't got any money?!

Yes bbs, Vegas! We are currently detailing a voyage to the convention. ZQ will be there; I will collapse into a quivering mass on the floor; maybe we'll see Cher; it will be a grand old time. Mother says we'll need to ride the water slides at Treasure Island.

At any rate, it's time for me to watch more of the Original Series: if I'm going to attend a convention, I have some serious studying to do.

Happy Birthday Mr. Quinto... you handsome devil.

Okokok edit
: I have just seen the most homosexual thing on Star Trek to date. Dear lord, it is beautiful; words cannot describe, you just have to see this...

And then McCoy sees Alice and a giant white rabbit. Aah Star Trek, will you ever cease to amaze me?

Fangirling

27 May, 2009 | 04:14 am
mood: giddy giddy

I've got myself all hopped up on Star Trek and now I can't sleep.
I haven't done this in ages; I'd almost forgotten what it was like to be up all night ogling.

In other news: I just watched the death of the first red-shirt on an away team. This is most certainly an historic moment.

R.I.P. This guy.

Tuesday Night

27 May, 2009 | 00:40 am
location: In bed
music: The Firm - Star Trekkin'

I've done some rearranging;now it's different.

I had a job interview today. Hopefully I get it, because it's a really cool job, and because I don't want to have to look for anything else: it's a job as a production stage manager for a production of Macbeth. I think ideally, I'd work there, and also at the sex shop where I applied, and volunteer at Bard on the Beach in my spare time... hmm...

I spent most of the morning watching Star Trek: TOS, and it's awesome - it fills me with happiness and othersuch spositive emotions. You really have to see it yourself.

Then I had my interview, and then I went to the VAG to see sexy Dutch art. There were sexy flaming ships, and things in ridiculous detail. There were also ludicrous amounts of people, but nevertheless, we did manage to pick up some old Dutch slang for slut (piskous, literally meaning "chamberpot") and erm... something else similar to slut (kous, literally meaning stocking). There was also a really great exhibit that was sort of the interiors of houses - there was one from each decade starting at the '50s and ending in the present - and they were all stacked on top of each other in that round bit with the stairs. We didn't get to see the top two floors (the '90s and the '00s) because bits of the gallery were roped off for intstalling things, but it was still really great... even if the '70s house had shag carpet in the washroom.

Then, of course, there was sushi. Sushi is the one thing I think is really lacking on the east coast; it depresses me to no end. This was followed by a visit to the Pocky store amid much inane chatter.

We almost went to see Star Trek again, but alas, it is a "school night".

Eep!

26 May, 2009 | 00:36 am
location: In bed
music: The Smiths - Strangeways, Here We Come

I decided that, if I'm going to start using LiveJournal again, I may as well also start using my blog. I am sure there are many things that I could say - it having been close to a year since I updated - but I can't think of anything worthwile.

This is because I am watching porn.
Seriously, raging super dommes getting a taste of their own medicine is the hottest thing ever. I am sad that there is no porn of Ripley undergoing slave training.

Oh wait...
no...
I've got it...

There should be porn where they try to elicit an emotional response from Spock using bondage.
There could be cross bondage, and floggers, and single-tails, and canes, and... and estim! Cattle prods!! Fucking machines!!! Cruel and unusual torture!!!! Big sexy dominatrix boots!!!!! Two doms at once!!!!!!
*explode*

I think I'll go back to watching Star Trek before my brain starts to hemmorhage.

I Want to Believe

29 July, 2008 | 19:19 pm

Ok, so this is quite a story – I get really excited just thinking about it – but before we get into all that, let’s start off with some pictures of cupcakes.

All images can be clicked for a bigger version.

We made these a few weeks ago to commemorate the end of our epic re-watch; icing isn’t really an exact science… but we try.

cupcakes7.jpg Cupcakes 4 image by 270_broadway    cupcakes15.jpg Cupcakes 2 image by 270_broadway
cupcakes11.jpg Cupcakes 3 image by 270_broadway   cupcakes6.jpg Cupcakes image by 270_broadway

Here we have an alien fetus, some ova and Mulder sperm (affectionately known as the William cupcake), Spender the Burn Victim and Dead Fowley – notice the blood gushing out of her forehead – and, of course, our old friend, Flukie.

But that’s enough of that; now for the really interesting stuff:

24 July: X-Files Day
I woke up so giddy I could hardly see. I’m sure you’re all familiar with that feeling.

Eirian and Wednesday came over bearing gifts (t-shirt!) and we left the house, clothing ablaze with such slogans as “The Truth is Out There,” “Trust No One,” and “I Want to Believe.”

We had been told that tickets for the midnight showing were to go on sale at “4:00pm and not a minute sooner,” so, to bide the time, we went downtown to pick up copies of the new X-Files comic (which is great, by the way; loads of sexy Easter eggs), and then decided to head down to Commercial Drive anyhow, regardless of the fact that it wasn’t yet 3:00.

Upon arrival, the lady at the front desk sold us tickets early – amid many squees and giggles – and we met some of our illustrious mods. (By the way, I’m still intensely jealous of that lunch box.)

Having not eaten yet that day, and having heard that Frank Spotnitz and Chris Carter were to be downtown later that day for a little red-carpet-press-junket-type-thing, we went back downtown for lunch, and promptly set up camp in front of the Theatre Formerly Known as the Paramount.

Two hours later, this was set up:

IMG_3273-1.jpg Red Carpet image by 270_broadway

And a little while after that – having espied our fangirl!t-shirts – the newly-arrived media began hounding us for interviews and footage for television spots.

Some of the articles are here: CBC News, Metro News, the Georgia Straight; note the direct quote from yours truly. Actually, that was at one of my more ineloquent moments; most of what I said was far more interesting, and far more insightful; mostly I talked about how great Chris and Frank – and the rest of the cast and crew – had been to their fans, and how no one on Earth parallels my Agent Scully. Apparently we are also scheduled to be on television several times later this week.

Somewhere in the midst of all this, Rochelle showed up:

Left to right: Rochelle, me, Wednesday & Eirian

People had started to gather around, but no one had as good a vantage point as we did; we are the masters.

At this point, Tony – a fellow fan we had met – froze up, and began to blather incoherently about something happening behind us. Sure enough, we turn around, and who do we see walking across the street but these two fine gentlemen:

IMG_3275.jpg image by 270_broadway
Ok, maybe that's not the greatest picture, but it was the first chronologically, so there it is.

Every kind word ever said about these guys is absolutely true. Before even looking at any of the press, they made sure they spoke to us, and signed things, and what not.

IMG_3277.jpg Chris signing my comic image by 270_broadway  IMG_3284.jpg Frank signing my comic image by 270_broadway

Oh yes, that’s right: there they are signing my comic of the pilot episode. Here’s the finished product:

comic.jpg My Comic image by 270_broadway

While Chris and Frank were talking to the press, a few other cast members showed up, including Marco, the boy who played Christian (somewhere, there are pictures of us with him, but someone else took them, so I doubt I will ever see them), and Fagin Woodcock, who made it clear that he wasn’t a villain, he was just misunderstood, in fact, he wasn’t evil at all: his Frisbee just flew into that poor FBI agent’s garage…

Then – again, thanks to the t-shirts – someone asked if we wanted our pictures taken with Chris and Frank. I think this is probably the dumbest question I have ever been asked.

IMG_3288.jpg Group Shot image by 270_broadway

Did you want a detail shot? I don’t care, here it is:

jen19-1.jpg Detail image by 270_broadway

While all this was going on, Rochelle – who is absolutely shameless and I love it – couldn’t resist the opportunity to point out to Mr. Carter how sad she was at not being able to see the film. (I should explain that Chris and Frank were not only there for the media, but also for a very exclusive cast and crew screening of The X-Files: I Want to Believe.) Everyone went inside, but Chris and Frank told us to wait downstairs (while such personages as Kim Manners walked in, no less).

A few minutes later, the woman who was running the event came down the escalator and told us – Rochelle, myself, our illustrious mods, and some other members of our little community – that Chris and Frank said we could come in.

Let’s just pause a moment and let that sink in, shall we.

We got to go in.

To the exclusive cast and crew pre-screening of The X-Files film.

Before anyone else.

Holy shit.

She gave us these:

premiereticket.jpg Premiere Ticket image by 270_broadway

We squeed all the way up the escalator and into our seats.

Our mayor was there, but he didn’t go inside the theatre; instead he gave someone (an MLA from… somewhere) a very large plaque which was presented to Chris and Frank before the screening started. It was a proclamation, officially declaring that July 24th would hereafter be known as X-Files Day. It was all very well and good, but all I could think about was that Mulder and Scully’s enormous visages would, at some point in the next two hours, be kissing right in front of my face.

I had to hold my hand over my mouth the entire time to keep the embarrassing fangirl noises in.

After the film, there was a little meet-and-greet where we met Bruce Harwood, and Tom Braidwood, got signed posters, and gushed profusely over Chris and Frank, thanking them, and telling them over and over that they were the most amazing people in the universe.

The rest is somewhat less spectacular: we went back down to Commercial Drive – squeeing all the way – for the midnight showing, where we met up with some other members of the community.

The next day, there was cake and balloons. We had gone to Diary Queen a few days before and asked if we could get Mulder and Scully on our cake. We got some strange looks, but those looks were nothing compared to the one I got when I went to pick it up. The lady at the desk asked me what was on the cake, and I told her it was "a picture of two people lying on autopsy tables." She was speechless.

cake2.jpg Ice Cream Cake image by 270_broadway  balloons.jpg Balloons image by 270_broadway  cake3.jpg Ice Cream Cake 2 image by 270_broadway

Later we – and even more of you – went to the 7:00 showing of the movie, and then headed to the Yaletown Brewpub (which, unfortunately, we had to leave because we are all underage – though they didn’t seem to catch all of us).

Saturday, on Rock 101’s electric lunch, the DJ – a friend of mine – said “Happy Birthday to Danielle, the biggest X-Files fan in the universe.” This, of course, is not true, but it’s very flattering. And if you thought the ice cream cake we had was great, look at this:

cake6.jpg Cake 2 image by 270_broadway

The mountains stood up, and there were little hand-made chocolate trees on the back, and holy shit... I was completely in awe. I was so paranoid I almost couldn't cut it, but the thought of eating Mulder and Scully's faces got the better of me. A friend of mine made that for me... ironically it was the wife of the man who got to go on a date with Scully in Jersey Devil.

At any rate, we saw the movie three times in 2 days. Oh, and Chris Carter wished me a happy birthday. I would have mentioned names, but I know that some people don’t like having their names/screen names bandied about. I do have pictures of some of you from the red carpet, so if you’d like them, email me.

In closing, I’d just like to say that it was really nice meeting all of you. It’s one thing to meet other fans on the internet, but actually meeting them in person is a really nice reminder that I am not, as other people like to point out, overly crazy and obsessive.(Or, at the very least, that I am not alone in my crazy obsessiveness.)

Tata!

Spare Time Abound!

24 June, 2008 | 01:28 am
music: Leonard Cohen - Songs of Love and Hate

I've been reading a lot of fanfiction lately.
I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but it's given me a lot to think about with regards to the relationship between Mulder and Scully. There was one piece in particular that inspired me to write this: it was a piece called
Beyond Fragile by the great Lelya Harrison, and it really managed to capture Scully's actions and attitude in an every day setting. Then, as with just about every X-Files fanfic ever written, something happens to change the dynamic between Mulder and Scully; and it got me to thinking about the purpose of fanfiction, and about the way I saw the evolution of Mulder and Scully's romantic relationship.
Needless to say, I had a lot of spare time on my hands.
But anyhow, here it is:

Tata!
